Sunset, then the show: weekend nights at Laaganan Skybar
The peak used to empty out once the sun went down. On weekends it no longer does — and the only thing standing between you and the show is a transfer booking.
For most visitors the Dinagat Islands are a daylight place. The boats go out at eight, the heritage circuit runs through the afternoon, and by nine in the evening most of the province has gone quiet.
The Basilisa peak used to follow the same rhythm. People came up for sunset, ate, and went back down. On weekends that is no longer what happens.
The sunset is still the reason you come up
Nothing here replaces the view. Laaganan Skybar & Restaurant sits on the mountain above Basilisa, and the hour between five and six is what fills the tables — the channel below turning gold, the islands going to silhouette, the sky doing something different every evening.
We time every sunset package so you are seated at least thirty minutes before sundown, and the departure time shifts through the year so that stays true. That part has not changed.
What has changed is what happens next.
What the weekend programme actually is
Laaganan calls itself the first entertainment hub in the Dinagat Islands. Make of the superlative what you like — the concrete version is easier to check, and more interesting: there is a stage, a sound system, and a programme that runs to a schedule, on a mountain that until recently emptied out at eight.
Three things run there:
- Live music. The house billing is a live band and acoustic sets, on a proper stage rather than a corner with a speaker.
- Laaganan Idol. Their own singing competition. If you have spent any time in the Philippines you already know why this fills a room — and why the crowd is half the show.
- Drag nights. Performance, costume and a great deal of noise.
The line-up changes week to week, and it is announced on their Facebook page rather than fixed to a permanent calendar. Check Laaganan Skybar on Facebook for the current weekend, or ask us when you book and we will find out for you.
The bit that catches people out
Here is the practical problem, stated plainly.
Our standard sunset packages bring you back down at 8:40 PM. Pickup is 4:30 PM in San Jose, the food is served at 6:15, the return transfer leaves at 8:00. That timing is built around the view, not around a show — and the show has barely started when the van pulls away.
There is no road-side taxi rank on a mountain in Basilisa. If you have not arranged the ride down, you are not staying.
So if the entertainment is part of why you are coming up, say so when you book. Every sunset package carries a late return transfer add-on — ₱300 for the whole booking, not per person — which moves your return to after 10:00 PM. For a group of five that is sixty pesos a head to stay for the night rather than leave before it starts.
It is the cheapest line on the whole rate card and the one most likely to change your evening.
Which package to pair it with
Any of the sunset combos works, because they all include the same round-trip shuttle and the same reserved table. The difference is what is on it:
| Per head | What's included | |
|---|---|---|
| Sunset Ride & Dine | ₱649 | Set A — Golden Hour Set |
| Skyline Sunset Combo | ₱849 | Set B — sisig, lechon kawali or kare-kare, Turon Laaganan |
| Laaganan Premium Sunset | ₱1,099 | Set C, with the Blue Horizon signature cocktail |
For groups there are two priced by the table rather than by the head — the Barkada Sunset Combo at ₱2,699 for up to five, and the Grand Sunset Feast at ₱6,499 for up to ten. If you are coming as a barkada for a Saturday night, those are the ones to look at: the per-head cost drops, and a shared platter suits a long evening better than a plate each.
All rates are from the August 2026 rate card and include the round-trip shuttle from San Jose.
Things worth knowing before you go up
- It gets cold. This is a mountain top, and it cools fast once the sun is down. A light jacket is worth the space in your bag — this is the single thing guests most often wish they had brought.
- The road down is dark. Another reason to have your transfer arranged rather than improvised.
- Bring ID. Standard for a bar, and worth having if there are seniors or PWDs in your group.
- It is a real venue, not a tourist set-piece. The crowd on a Saturday is mostly local. That is the point — you are not being performed at.
Booking it
For a table only, contact Laaganan Skybar directly on 0917 552 6699 — they handle their own reservations, and on a weekend with a strong line-up the good tables go.
For transport and a table together, book a sunset package with us and add the late return. We will get you up the mountain in time for the light, and back down to San Jose when the night is actually over.
Laaganan Skybar & Restaurant is at Provincial Road, Brgy. Geotina, Basilisa, Dinagat Islands. It is a separate business under the same ownership as Laaganan Travel & Tours; where a tour includes a meal there, the menu value is itemised on the tour page so you can see exactly what you are paying for.
