Dinagat Islands itinerary: the complete guide to island hopping, heritage sites and sunset dining
How many days you need, what fills each one, and what it costs — built from the departures we actually run rather than a wish list.
Most people arrive in the Dinagat Islands with a boat tour booked and nothing else planned. That is usually enough for one good day and not much more — so this guide sets out what actually fills a trip here, how the days fit together, and what each one costs.
Everything below is a departure we run. Nothing is aspirational.
How long do you need?
- One evening — a sunset combo. Arrive, get up the mountain, eat, sleep.
- One full day — island hopping in the morning, the heritage circuit in the afternoon, sunset to close.
- Two days — both island-hopping routes plus every heritage landmark. This is the version that leaves nothing out.
If you are coming through San Jose Port and have any choice in the matter, two days is the one to aim for. One day works, but it is a full one.
The three kinds of day here
1. On the water
There are two island-hopping routes, and they are genuinely different trips.
The Basilisa route calls at Cabacungan Cove, Duyos Camping Resort, Bitaog Beach — where lunch is served on the sand — and Pagkawasan Garden Beach. It leaves Don Ruben Port at 8:00 AM and is back in San Jose in the early afternoon.
The Libjo route covers the Hagakhak rock formations, Pangabangan Beach, the Tidal Pool (Blue Lagoon) and the view deck above it, and Jelmars Islet Resort. It runs 8:00 AM to about 3:00 PM.
Both include the boat and boatman, all island entrance, cottage and docking fees, a set lunch, and a coordinator for the day.
The one thing to know before you commit: sea legs only run with Philippine Coast Guard clearance. If sailing is suspended, the day does not happen. We will move you to the inland circuit, reschedule, or refund the sea portion — but no operator can put a boat out when the Coast Guard says no.
2. Inland
The Sunset Heritage Tour is a 90 to 100 kilometre round trip from San Jose taking in the landmarks that actually define the province:
- PBMA Divine Master Shrine — the spiritual heart of the province and its most recognised landmark
- Island Castle — the hillside castle overlooking the town
- Capitolyo Ship — the Provincial Capitol, built in the shape of a ship
- Babaeng Bukid Viewing Deck — a ridge-top panorama across the islands and the inland range
- Pacific Ocean Viewpoint — the open Pacific from the eastern side
It departs at 12:30 PM and returns at 8:45 PM, and it runs in all but severe weather. That matters more than it sounds: it is the only part of a Dinagat itinerary that is not hostage to the sea.
3. The evening
Every land package finishes on the Basilisa peak for sunset and a set meal. Departure times shift through the year so that guests are always seated at least thirty minutes before sundown — you are not racing the light.
If you have already done your boat day and the evening is empty, a sunset combo exists for exactly that: pickup at 4:30 PM, sunset, dinner, home by 8:40 PM.
A one-day itinerary
The Complete Tour is this itinerary sold as one booking — ₱3,199 per guest, minimum six.
| Time | |
|---|---|
| 7:30 AM | Meet at Don Ruben Port, San Jose |
| 8:00 AM | Depart on the Basilisa island-hopping route |
| 11:30 AM | Bitaog Beach — set lunch on the sand |
| 2:15 PM | Back to San Jose, transfer to the land tour |
| 3:00 PM | Capitolyo Ship, then two ridge viewpoints |
| 5:45 PM | Sunset from the Basilisa peak |
| 6:15 PM | Skyline Sunset Set served |
| 8:45 PM | Drop-off in San Jose |
Because the morning is at sea, the afternoon runs a shortened heritage leg — the PBMA Shrine and Island Castle are covered on the full circuit instead.
A two-day itinerary
The Ultimate 3D2N is ₱5,999 per guest, minimum ten, and includes two nights' air-conditioned accommodation.
Day one runs the Libjo route, then the Pacific Ocean Viewpoint and sunset at the peak with the Premium Set.
Day two runs the Basilisa route in the morning and the full heritage circuit in the afternoon — shrine, castle, Capitol, viewing deck.
Two days, both routes, every landmark, and you never repeat yourself.

Practical notes
- A 50% deposit confirms a booking. The balance is due at least two days before your tour date.
- Joiners sail when the boat fills. You can book a single seat on an island-hopping joiner — we pool you with other travellers, and the boat leaves once ten seats are taken. If your date does not fill you can move to another date or take a full refund. Sunset combos and land tours do have real minimums: below them you can book the shuttle on its own at ₱1,500 round trip for one to six guests, move to another date, or take a full refund.
- Bring a light jacket. The peak cools quickly after sundown. This is the item guests most often wish they had packed.
- A ₱300 surcharge applies to any return transfer after 10:00 PM.
If none of this fits
Plenty of trips do not. If you are travelling with small children, on a tight arrival window, or want something built around a specific occasion, tell us the dates and the party and we will come back with an itinerary and a quotation rather than pushing you into a package that half works.
