The Provincial Capitol, officially named Yamashiro and built in the shape of a ship — the image of Dinagat.
If one building represents the province, it is this one. Officially named Yamashiro, the Capitol is built in the form of a ship, and it appears on the heritage circuit of every land tour we run.
The name is not decorative. The provincial government describes the building as inspired by the IJN Yamashiro — a Japanese battleship sunk during the Battle of Surigao Strait in 1944, in the waters this province sits beside. A building shaped like a warship, named for one that went down within sight of here.
